ADVERTISING VOCAB

Definition of marketing: the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market  (thị trường mục tiêu) at a profit.  Marketing identifies unfulfilled needs (nhu cầu chưa được thoả mãn) and desires (khao khát). It defines, measures (đo lường) and quantifies the size of the identified market and the profit potential. 

Aims of advertising: To increase customer awareness/ brand awareness (nâng cao nhận thức về thương hiệu)  => boost sales / revenue => maximize profit (profit maximization: tối đa hoá lợi nhuận)

Advertising campaigns: chiến dịch quảng cáo

Attract more customers/ reach more potential customers: tiếp cận nhiều khách hàng tiềm năng

Persuade customers to buy more than they need = create artificial needs (nhu cầu ảo)

Influence consumer behavior/  shopping behavior/ shopping habits (hành vi mua sắm/ tiêu dùng)

Emotional appeal advertising leads to impulse purchases / unplanned purchases/ impulsive buying (mua sắm ngẫu hứng)

Demand and supply on the market / products available on the market / competitors / competing products

Niche market : thị trường ngách

Untapped market / unfulfilled demand/ needs

Enter a market / penetrate into a market: thâm nhập thị trường

Potential market: thị trường tiềm năng 

CUSTOMERS

Potential customers 

Demanding customers/ Discerning customers: khách hàng khó tính

Loyal customers/ regular customers/ frequent customers: khách hàng trung thành

Well-educated customers: khach hàng có học vấn cao

Customer satisfaction: sự hài lòng của khách hàng

Customer preferences and tastes: sở thích và thị hiếu khách hàng 

PRODUCTS 

Cao cấp: Upscale / high-end / luxury markets/ products

Giá rẻ: Low-end products/ low-cost products

Fulfill a need/ a demand = meet a need (đáp ứng nhu cầu)

MARKETING = Sales + Advertising + Public Relations (PR quan hệ công chúng) + Market Research (nghiên cứu thị trường)

Marketing = 4Ps = Product + Price + Place (Distribution- phân phối) + Promotion (Tiếp thị: discounts, advertising)

PR = Events sponsorship (tài trợ) + Press release (thông cáo báo chí) + Charitable Programs (từ thiện) + Partnerships 

Form of advertising:

  • TV commercials
  • Social media: Facebook Ads, Google Ads
  • Print advertising: leaflets, flyers, brochures, catalogs
  • Outdoor advertisements: billboards and signs/ posters
  • Celebrity endorsement: products endorsed by celebrities (thuê sự ủng hộ của người nổi tiếng) = Promote a fancy/ glamorous lifestyle: lối sống hoa lệ
  • Word-of-mouth marketing (advertising) = quảng cáo truyền miệng (free) : if customers are delighted/ highly satisfied with a product or service, they will recommend their family and friends to buy 

EFFECTS of ADVERTISING 

  • Inform customers of better choices available on the market => Increase sales (turnovers)

  • Profit maximization

  • Promote unhealthy/ harmful products

  • Have negative/ adverse / detrimental impacts on the public

  • Encourage people to buy more than they need/ lead to excessive buying

  • Promote materialism (chủ nghiã vật chất): encourage material acquisition => more competitive & stressful lifestyle - the rat race (speaking only) => decline of moral/ spiritual values

  • Social issues: get into debts/ suffer from financial distress/ strain => poor mental health

  • Environmental issues: industrial & household waste increase/ severe pollution/ Resource depletion

  • The rise of materialism => Weakened family bonds & social cohesion 

  • Rising crime rates / lack of money for other needs such as education and recreation 

BUSINESS VOCAB

Mission statement (tuyên ngôn sứ mệnh) / business vision (tầm nhìn) / business strategy 

Corporate social responsibilities / corporate image / corporate culture (văn hoá doanh nghiệp) / corporate ladder: bậc thang thăng tiến

Core values: giá trị cốt lõi

Core competitive advantages: lợi thế cạnh tranh

Sales/ turnover/ revenue: doanh thu

Strategic management (leaders: quản trị chiến lược) vs operational/ daily management (quản lí điều hành: managing directors & managers)

Departments (phòng ban): Products, marketing & sales , Research & development , Finance, IT, HR department 

Staff turnover (sự luân chuyển) / employee retention (sự giữ lại)  /employee morale (tinh thần làm việc)

Business ethics (đạo đức) / ethical business practices/ sustainable business practices (hoạt động kinh doanh)
